About

Add visuals to your screen to give your eyes a rest or just for fun. Set up effects and switch them as needed using hotkeys at predetermined times.

CREATE YOUR OWN EFFECTS

Each effect can include a combination of darkening, toning, clipping, and gamma shift. It can also invert colors and adjust HDTV brightness. Create the effects you need. Invert and make the screen completely red if you are into astronomy. Shades of orange and yellow will help you sleep better, while shades of blue will help you stay awake.

-Dimming: Reduce screen brightness by dimming every pixel. Used to reduce the brightness of LCD screens beyond the minimum backlight value.

-Toning: Simulates a color filter of the selected color placed in front of the screen. Allows you to change the hue by setting the white point. Useful for giving your screen an orange glow and reducing blue light at night, but works with any color.

-Clipping (underexposure and overexposure): Replace dark gray below a given threshold with black, and light gray with white. Darker or lighter colors may change the shade slightly.

-Gamma Shift: Makes gray colors lighter or darker, but without saturation when reaching a threshold (as opposed to clipping). Useful for making subtle dark or light details more visible, such as in a dark game.

-Invert Screen: Inverts black and white colors, creating a negative image on the screen.

- HDTV Brightness Adjustment: Adapts the picture to the 16-235 brightness range used by some HDTVs when connected via HDMI. Typically, the computer should automatically adjust the output values, but this is not always possible if the TV is connected via an adapter.

TIMER, SUNRISE AND SUNSET ACTIVATION

Effects can be automatically enabled based on your Mac's clock or local sunrise and sunset times. You can chain multiple transitions together to change colors as you see fit throughout the day.

APPLICATION-SPECIFIC EFFECTS

Always want to use a certain effect when watching videos or playing games? You can associate effects with specific apps, and Black Light will automatically switch to those effects while the app is in first place... and automatically switch back when the app is no longer in first place.

COMPREHENSIVE MULTIPLE SCREEN SUPPORT

Do you have more than one screen? No problem. Although the effect works on all screens, you can configure its settings on a per-screen basis. For example, this is an easy way to make the secondary screen less noticeable while performing certain tasks.

INACTIVITY AND MOUSE TRACKING

Black Light effects may have different settings after a certain period of mouse or keyboard inactivity. Use the "Vary for Inactivity" button to specify what the inactive version of the effect should look like.

If you have multiple screens, you can also use inactivity to highlight the screen the mouse pointer is currently on.

HOT KEYS

Each effect can be activated from any application by assigning a global hotkey to it. Additionally, you can customize various aspects of the currently active effect using more customizable hotkeys.

MENU

The dock menu displays a list of available effects. In it, you can make effects active or inactive, even if they don't have a hotkey. You can also move the Black Light icon to the menu bar, freeing up space in your dock.

LIMITATIONS

Black Light will not work with a screen connected using some USB DisplayLink adapters or an iPad connected using Sidecar.
