About

WhyFi is a convenient menu-bar app that quickly identifies why your Wi-Fi is slow or unstable and suggests how to fix it.

How it works:
WhyFi continuously monitors your connection across several layers:

• Wi-Fi signal (from your Mac to the router)
• Router latency
• Internet quality (ISP)
• DNS

Each metric is color-coded: green means everything is good, orange indicates average performance, and red signals a problem. The menu-bar icon changes dynamically based on your connection quality.

Features:

• WhyFi Radar — walk around your home or a café with your laptop; the app updates 4 times per second, telling you to "move forward" or "go back" to find the spot with the strongest signal (scored from 0 to 100).
• Speed test with bufferbloat detection (a latency issue that occurs under heavy load, critical for voice calls and video streaming).
• Wi-Fi Channel Scanner — identifies congested channels and recommends which one to switch to.
• Quick DNS switching (Google or Cloudflare) with a single click.
• Report export for ChatGPT/Claude.
• Captive portal detection (for hotel or airport Wi-Fi networks).
